Who Benefits

With your financial help we are able to provide funding to support various local programs and services throughout our community. People contribute to United Way because they know that one gift will go a long way.

The following is a list of programs funded by the United Way of Halton Hills. All programs/services are offered to all residents of Halton Hills from children, youth, families, individuals, people with disabilities and seniors.


Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton: www.bbbshalton.ca
In School Mentoring Program: Children in grades K to 6 are identified and referred by school staff based on social and emotional needs. Children are matched with a volunteer for games, crafts, sports or reading for an hour each week in the school.
Big Brother Big Sister Mentoring: Matches children & youth ages 5-14, who have been assessed at risk, with a Big Brother or Big Sister who can provide guidance, companionship and mentorship.
First Mentors:A 3 week group program for Little Brothers and Little Sisters on the waiting list to be matched with a Big Brother/Sister. The children are matched with a mentor and each week the children hav the opportunity to be involved with their First Mentor as they participated in drama activities, interactive sports & games and arts & crafts.
Group Recreation:Monthly special events are held for all Littel Brothers and Sisters, providing a regular recreational activity.

Halton Food For All: A collaboration of food banks and social service agencies has established a centralized warehouse model of food solicaitaion & distribution to enable food banks, social service agencies and others to provide more fresh food to low income families & individuals in Halton.


Canadian Mental Health Association of Halton: www.cmha-halton.ca
Mental Health Education/Promotion Program: Provides the community with educational mental health programs, presentations and workshops; participates in a variety of community and workplace mental health promotion activities and offers a community information & referrral service to all residents of Halton.


STRIDE:www.stride.on.ca
Supported Employment Program: A program that provides employment support options to residents of Halton Hills, who face mental health issues. Suport offered includes: employment planning, assessments, computer training, job coaching, skills training, fork lift training, etc.


Community Living North Halton: www.clnh.on.ca
Friday Friends: Young people (ages 19 to 30 yrs old), with developmental handicaps, meet for leisure and socila activities on alternate Fridays.
Saturday Centre: Children (ages 4 to 21 yrs old), with developmental handicaps, enjoy recreatinal activities on Saturdays. The Saturday Centre also provides families an opportunity for regular respite.
Drop In Centre:A program for adults (over age 30) with developmental handicaps to socialize and participate in recreational and leisure activities.


Distress Centre North Halton: 905 877-1211
Crisis Intervention Telephone Line: This is a service that offers comfort, emotional support, information and referrals to residents of Halton Hills who are in distressful or crisis situations.

Volunteer Matching Program: This program matches volunteers with children in need of a supportive relationship.
Discovery Leadership: This program partners young girls with women in the community to develop and practice leadership and advocacy skills.


ROCK: www.rockonline.ca
Youth Aiding Youth: Children ages 6 to 12, assessed as 'at risk' are matched with youth volunteers on a 1 to 1 basis. Goals of the program: for the children ages 6 to 12 to increase their self esteem, offer guidance and spend time with positive role models. For the youth volunteers: to develop leadership, organizational, communication and time management skills.

Client Services: Provides information and referral, education, support, advocacy and funding to members of Halton Hills living with MS.


Halton Trauma Centre: (905)825-3242
Trauma Assessment & Treatment: Services for children and youth (ages 3 to 18) and their caregivers who have experienced trauma such as: physical, sexual, emotional and neglect. An Assessment team determines the most effective treatment approach.

Individual, Couple and Family Counselling: Provides a safe environment in which to heal, grow, and learn for residents who are finding it difficult to cope with a wide variety of life's challenges, including parenting, marital conflict and abuse, family relationships, aging parents, adjusting to life in Canada, etc.

Friendly Visiting Program: This program matches volunteers with seniors and physically challenged individuals. The program offers friendship and support.


Support and Housing Halton: www.shhalton.org
Peer Support Program (TEACH): Region wide workshops and peer support services are offered for adults and youth (age 16 and older) who are dealing with ongoing mental illness.


Literacy North Halton: www.literacynh.org
Read*Spell*Write: This program helps adults who wish to improve their ability to read and write at home, in the workplace and in the community.


Links2Care: www.links2care.ca
Open Door & Off the Wall Youth Centres: Youth Centres supporting youth ages 9-19 in a caring, safe environment. Guidance and problem solving strategies are offered by qualified youth workers.
Community Support:This program provides general support, assistance and advocacy services to people in Halton Hills including: a transitional housing program, needs coordination and holiday hampers for people experienceing financial difficulties. They also coordinate the Winter Warmth program on behalf of United Way of Halton Hills.
